May is Water Safety Month

The White Salmon Valley Pool Metro Park District comprehensive plan states that our vision is “To be a hub of quality community life by promoting water safety and a lifelong commitment to health and fitness for the whole community.”

The original city pool was the primary way that kids in the White Salmon valley learned how to swim. The White Salmon Valley School District worked with the pool to provide lessons to 3rd & 4th grade classes as part of the physical education curriculum. When the 4th grade moved up to Loop Road, the pool continued to provide lessons to the 3rd grade classes. The pool also provided group lessons for hundreds of children every year.

The White Salmon Valley Pool Metro Park District is committed to starting these lessons again as soon as possible once we get the pool built. Our entire community knows the importance of water safety given the fact we are surrounded by rivers and lakes, as well as a hub for water related activities and sports.

May is water safety month and the commissioners of the WSVPMPD will be doing outreach events during the months of May & June (and throughout the summer) to help our constituents understand the urgency of getting these programs back in place for the youth of our valley - for water safety, recreation, and to start making memories for generations AGAIN! Let’s get ready to SWIM, PLAY, LIVE.
